A blast from the past

Still not knitting :(
Managing at work, though.

Someone sent me this photo of the night we sat our finals when I trained as a nurse.
Can't remember where we got the football strips from or being that thin and brown.
I'm the one in the 80's red specs.

What do you do when you can't knit?

I've been having a frustrating time this past couple of weeks! I damaged the tendons in my right wrist and have been wearing a brace. I can't knit. I've tried, but it was very painful and then the Dr told me to stop trying.

I can't write, which is difficult at work, and I'm only just getting back to the point where I can use a mouse and type again.
I didn't realise how much knitting I got done during the evenings, watching TV. Watching TV without something to do on the side is excruciatingly boring.

I've resorted to stealing j's iPod Touch and am getting really good at Peggle and Bedjewelled, but I'm still rubbish at Jelly Car. Just so you know.

I've also been buying trashy magazines. It's amazing what I know about celebrities (sic) now. I'm thinking about it as a Mastermind specialist subject. Heat Magazine tells me that you can find Elton John selling his car on Auto Trader if you have £40K lying around.

I also know that Derren Brown is the top of the Wierd Celebrity Crush poll. Definitely wierd.

My teenage crush was this guy:

Test Knitting

I let myself get sidetracked from the knitting project (a cardigan) I'm working on at the moment and the project I should finish (a second sock) and test-knit two hats for fellow ravellers who have projects in the design stage.

These are the outcomes:

The Brandon Ribbed Beanie (Ravelry link), designed by Mindy Vasil and modelled by J.

And then:

The Minerva (another Ravelry link) hat, designed by Ashley Knowlton and given to my friend K, who is outdoors a lot as part of her job.

Now, only two pairs of trousers to hem and an angora sweater to defuzz before I get back to my main projects.

Can you tell I'm not feeling the love?

Looking forwards

Without being cryptic, we got a lot of things sorted out in 2009 - housekeeping and job decisions about where we were heading and what our priorities over the next few years would be.

This year we have lots to look forward to:

j has his exams for the A2 parts of his A levels. He already has offers from the universities he is interested in, but the requirements are high as the place he really wants to go is in the top 5 of all UK universities. He's working really hard and his predicted grades are very good.

I am due to have my surgery this spring, although I'm trying not to think about it and just get on with losing weight at a steady rate.

We're looking forward to our Summer trip. We're flying to San Francisco and then taking a road trip. We're staying in San Francisco, Carmel, Yosemite, Death Valley, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Lake Havasu and Los Angeles, then are flying back from Los Angeles. It is very exciting and I dip into the guide books when the weather here starts to get to me.
